Escher

In class we started learning about a artist who would draw pictures like this, so we had to think of our own idea and draw it. When I started to think of a plan for this project, I knew that I wanted to do something with day and night because I love the difference in them. I did the building in two-point perspective and I wanted it in the middle that way I could have day on one side and night on the other side. The artist used to do checkers in many of this artworks, so I did mine that way too. First I made a sketch and then when it was how I wanted it, I went over it to make it better. To add different values, I made sure to shade the night side and leave the day side white, as if its bright out. From this project,  I learned a lot about the famous artist and about point perspective drawings.

Ceramic Bowl

My ceramic bowl was how it was because I wanted something that would be usable but at the same time have a cool design. Its a medium sized bowl and could be used for eating out of but also storing things in. During the construction of designing this bowl, I really wanted to make the shape of it the main feature. I cut a shape out of paper and then put it on the block of clay to cut out. After cutting out the clay, I did a hump bowl. A hump bowl means that I layed it on the outside of the bowl to create the shape. We also had to do a radial design in this, meaning a design that starts in the middle and comes out. While doing this project, I learned many things about different types of clay and how to shape clay too. I learned how to use red clay as a color to add decoration. If I could redo the project, I would make sure to smooth out the clay more so that no cracks would show up. I would also do more layers of red clay so that it would show up more and not be so blotchy.

Shoe Drawing

The purpose of the show drawing was to show how one object was in the distance and how one was closer to someone. I decided that I was going to draw my shoes on a table so I had to figure out how I wanted them to be set. I tried a bunch of different ways and liked having one flipped over and having the heels overlapping. While shading, I noticed that some parts of the shoes were so much darker than other spots, so I had to add different darkness and lightness, which made value in the picture. The table was made to look like it was going into the distance, so I had it run off the page making it look dimensional. From doing this drawing, I learned how to shade by putting different pressure on the pencil and by using different strokes.

Acrylic Landscape Painting

To do the compostion of my painting, I picked the picture that I wanted, which was one that I took on my phone. I then noticed that I needed something in the front of my picture so I printed out pictures of rocks. When you are painting, you have to use atmospheric perspective. Armospheric perspective is making everything in the painting in perspective with eachother and having it all look realistic. To create atmospheric perspective, I used different shades and different tints of my color scheme. I also had to create a light course, which I did by adding white to the parts that I needed to be lighter and adding black to the shadows and to the darker parts. For my color scheme, I used analogous colors. I went off the green and used the colors that were next to that. To add texture to the painting, you use different types of brush srokes. For the sky, I went horizontally to make it look layered and calm looking out. I had to make the trees in the background and grass so I took a brush and dabed it to make it all look rough and textured. The lighthouse was the main feature in the painting so I made it stand out the most and for the brush strokes i went diagonally so that you could tell it was circular. Value is using lights and darks to make the objects more realistic. I used white and black to make things lighter adn darker which created the value in my painting.

Pastel Still Life

When I started to plan this project, I looked at everything that I would need to do. I planned my compostition by first figuring out how i wanted to place my boxes of candy. I realized that I liked the look of all of them stacked up and having my favorite candy on top. To figure out the placement, I used a thumbnail sketch, which is a smaller and more zoomed in picture of the objects that helps you focus on the main features. When you look through the veiwfinder, you see what you would be drawing and it helps you decide how you want your objects to be set up. To make the boxes look three dimensional, I used shading with both light and dark. I created a light source by using cast shadows and also making one side of the still life darker and having the other side be lighter.
